Sitting in the Chennai Super Kings enclosure, donning his bright yellow team jersey, Kris Srikkanth was his usual happy self in his role as the team’s ambassador at the CCI. And though Chennai lost the match by five wickets, Srikkanth — in his role as chairman of selectors — would have had a little less to worry about after Suresh Raina smashed a 52-ball 83 to set up a stiff target, putting to rest any doubt about the left-hander’s place in the Indian middle-order for the world T20 championships next month.
Raina may been have fast-tracked to the Chennai captaincy during Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s absence due to injury, but with the mighty Matthew Hayden batting above him and the likes of captain Dhoni, Albie Morkel and Justin Kemp manning the lower-order below, the 23-year-old left-hander has often been lost in transition in the formidable Chennai Super Kings’s batting order.
