You cannot be more of a Mumbaikar than Sachin Tendulkar! Here's the master blaster, dressed up for Nita Ambani's Mumbai Indians, all set to battle in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting on March 12. And dressing Tendulkar up for Season III of the Twenty20 tournament, is leading sports brand adidas with a jersey created by Delhi designers Shantanu and Nikhil.
Rather cleverly, the designer duo have used the Bandra-Worli Sealink as their inspiration for the jersey. "We have captured the strength of the iconic sea-link," said Nikhil Mehra, "the gold foil lines on the front symbolise the structure, which conjoins the old and the new part of the city — representing the mix of experience in the team which will give it an edge over the others. The colour of the jersey has also been changed to a deeper blue that presents a strong contrast with the dull gold and gives an edgy feel."
Pleased with the look, Andreas Gellner, Managing Director, adidas India, said, "We are thrilled to be partners with Mumbai Indians. We wanted a bold and clean look that players and fans would wear with pride on and off the field. We strived to create a jersey that reflects the spirit of Mumbai and with our design partners, Shantanu and Nikhil, and Nita Ambani's valuable inputs, we were able to achieve all of this and more." Equally excited about the new look for her team's jersey, Nita said, "Shantanu and Nikhil, along with the adidas team, have managed to creatively capture the facets of Mumbai and I am sure the Mumbai Indians fans will love their team in this new look."
The latest in apparel technology is featured in the cricket team's kit including ClimaCool™ and ClimaLite™, which allow heat and sweat to escape the body and are proven to reduce fatigue and dehydration. Good news for fans is that the new jerseys would be available soon at exclusive adidas stores nationwide along with a complete apparel and accessories line.
