11 Mar 2010

New Delhi: Contrary to the popular belief, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar is not the first player to hit a double hundred in ODI cricket. Former Australian Women's team captain Belinda Clark was the first in the history of ODI cricket to hit a double century!

Sachin is definitely the first man to hit a double hundred in ODI, but certainly, he is the not the first person to do this. Belinda had achieved the milestone against Denmark during the Women's World Cup in 1997. And, she set the record in Mumbai.

Belinda Jane Clarkand LM Keightley added 168 runs for the first wicket and powered Australia post a mammoth total of 412/3 in 50 overs. Belinda remained unbeaten on 229 off 155 balls. She hit 22 boundaries, but no sixes.

In reply, Denmark bowled out for just 49 in 25.5 overs and Australia won the match by 363 runs. Belinda Clark was declared "Player of the Match" for her outstanding performance.
